PUBLIC LAW ASSOCIATE

Meyers Nave is seeking an associate for its Public Law Group for its Sacramento office.  Qualified candidates should have 1-3 years of experience, excellent research and writing skills, superior public speaking ability, and a strong interest in working with public agency clients.

Ideal candidates will have some knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records At and conflicts law, and an understanding of local government.

    LAND USE LITIGATOR

Meyers Nave is currently seeking an associate with 4-6 years of land use litigation experience for its Oakland office. Candidates for consideration must have substantial experience litigating land use issues. (e.g CEQA, NEPA, Coastal Act, etc.).   Excellent research and writing skills, and superior public speaking ability, are required. 

ENVIRONMENTAL / WATER QUALITY ASSOCIATE

Meyers Nave's Environmental Practice Group is currently looking for a 4-6 year associate attorney with a particular emphasis on water quality law and environmental litigation.  Intimate knowledge of the federal Clean Water Act and California's Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act is required, as is experience with the State Water Resources Control Board, Regional Water Quality Control Boards, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and nongovernmental organizations.  In addition, this position requires an ability to independently handle significant responsibility in complex environmental litigation (including CERCLA, RCRA and common law claims).  Superior writing and analytical capabilities are critical.  Candidates with little or superficial environmental experience will not be considered.  Position is located in Los Angeles or Oakland, but exceptional candidates could also be placed in the firm's Sacramento, San Francisco or Santa Rosa offices.  

LITIGATION PARALEGAL

Meyers Nave seeks a paralegal to support the firm’s Labor & Employment and Litigation groups.  The ideal candidate will have significant experience with large, document intensive complex litigationmattersin the state and federal courts, assisting in all aspects of case management from initial filing through trial and appeal.  Under the supervision of an attorney, the applicant will assist in factual investigations, document collection and review; draft legal documents, including subpoenas, motions, discovery responses and correspondence; and prepare witness binders, trial notebooks and exhibits in anticipation of trial, mediation or arbitration.  

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, reasoning and research skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  •  Must consistently produce high-quality work; take ownership of projects and complete assignments in a timely fashion;
  • Flexibility, composure and the ability to prioritize and handle many urgent tasks and requests simultaneously with a high level of competence and accuracy;
  • Proficiency in the use of Lexis, Concordance and Summation;
  • B.A. or B.S. degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience; and
  • Completion of an ABA-accredited paralegal certification program, or other advanced degree or significant work experience such that statutory requirements are satisfied (BP § 6450 compliant).

This is a non-exempt position.  Paralegals are expected to reach the firm's annual billable hours requirement of 1575 hours, maintain regular office hours consistent with the firm’s normal business hours and be available, as needed, for after-hours and weekend overtime.
